The China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL) began operation in 2010. It is located within the Jinping Mountain tunnel, which is 17.5 kilometers long, in the Yalong River region of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The Deep Underground and Ultra-low Radiation Background Facility (DURF), currently under construction as part of CJPL Phase II, is a major national scientific infrastructure project. Upon completion in 2024, CJPL will become the world’s largest underground laboratory in terms of usable volume (330,000 m³), with the deepest rock overburden (2,400 m), the lowest cosmic-ray flux, and the lowest radiation background, offering optimal experimental conditions. CJPL is jointly constructed by Tsinghua University and Yalong River Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., and supports cutting-edge research in dark matter, neutrino physics, nuclear astrophysics, deep-earth medicine, and rock mechanics.
Note:
(1) Do not touch any equipment or instruments in CJPL. Dangerous items such as flammables or strong magnets are strictly prohibited.
(2) Wear comfortable, flat-soled shoes. High heels, sandals, and platform shoes are not recommended. It is recommended to bring a light jacket, considering that the temperature in CJPL is around 18°C.
(3) Smoking and eating are not allowed inside the laboratory. Please keep quiet and maintain cleanliness.
